    Here's a little song I wrote
You might want to sing it note for note
    Don't worry, be happy
In every life we have some trouble
But when you worry you make it double

    Don't worry, be happy

Ain't got no place to lay your head
Somebody came and took your bed
    Don't worry, be happy
The landlord say your rent is late
    He may have to litigate
    Don't worry, be happy

Oh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh don't worry, be happy

Here I give you my phone number, when you worry, call me, I'll make you happy.

Ain't got no cash, ain't got no style
Ain't got no gal to make you smile
    Don't worry, be happy
'Cause when you worry your face will frown
And that will bring everybody down

    So don't worry, be happy

Now there, is this song I wrote
I hope you learned note for note
Like good little children, don't worry, be happy
Now listen to what I said, in your life expect some trouble
When you worry you make it double
But don't worry, be happy, be happy now

    Wonderful find.
And then this came along - their cover of Supertramp's 'The Logical Song'.
    Love it

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=U8TYyG6QPQE

When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful
A miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical
And all the birds in the trees, well they'd be singing so happily
    Oh joyfully, playfully watching me
But then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible
    Logical, oh responsible, practical
And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable
    Oh clinical, oh intellectual, cynical

There are times when all the world's asleep
    The questions run too deep
    For such a simple man
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
    I know it sounds absurd
Please tell me who I am

I said, watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical
    Liberal, oh fanatical, criminal
Won't you sign up your name, we'd like to feel you're acceptable
    Respectable, oh presentable,…

Now here you go again, you say you want your freedom
Well, who am I to keep you down?
It's only right that you should play the way you feel it
But listen carefully to the sound of your loneliness

Like a heartbeat drives you mad
In the stillness of remembering what you had
    And what you lost
    And what you had
    And what you lost

Oh, thunder only happens when it's raining
Players only love you when they're playing
Say, women, they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean, you'll know
    You'll know

Now here I go again, I see the crystal visions
I keep my visions to myself
It's only me who wants to wrap around your dreams
And have you any dreams you'd like to sell?
    Dreams of loneliness

Like a heartbeat drives you mad
In the stillness of remembering what you had
    And what you lost
    And what you had
    Oh, what you lost

Thunder only happens when it's raining
Players only love you when they're playing
Women, they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean, you'll know

Oh, thunder only happens when it's raining
Players only love you when they're playing
Say, women, they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean, you'll know
    You'll know

    Long distance runner,
    what you standin' there for?
    Get up, get out,
    get out of the door

    Your playin' cold music
    on the barroom floor
    Drowned in your laughter
    and dead to the core.

    There's a dragon with matches
    that's loose on the town
Takes a whole pail of water
    just to cool him down.

    Fire! Fire on the mountain!

    Almost ablaze
still you don't feel the heat
    It takes all you got
just to stay on the beat.
    You say it's a livin',
    we all gotta eat
    But you're here alone,
    there's no one to compete.
    If Mercy's a bus'ness,
    I wish it for you
    More than just ashes
    when your dreams come true.

    Fire! Fire on the mountain!

    Long distance runner,
    what you holdin' out for?
    Caught in slow motion
in a dash for the door.
    The flame from your stage
has now spread to the floor

    You gave all you had.
    Why you wanna give more?
    The more that you give,
    the more it will take

To the thin line beyond which
    you really can't fake.

    Fire! Fire on the mountain!

    I won't tell no lie

One and all got to face

Though I've tried to find the answer
to all the questions they ask

    Though I know it's impossible

We turn away to face the cold, enduring chill
As the day begs the night for mercy love
The sun so bright it leaves no shadows
    Only scars
    carved into stone
    On the face of earth
    The moon is up and
    over One Tree Hill
    We see the sun
    go down
    in your eyes

    You run
    like river,
    on like a sea
You run like a river runs to the sea

And in the world a heart of darkness
    A fire zone
    Where poets speak their heart
    Then bleed for it
Jara sang, his song a weapon
    In the hands of love
    You know his blood
    still
    cries
    From the ground

It runs like a river runs to the sea
It runs like a river to the sea

I don't believe in painted roses
    Or bleeding hearts
    While bullets rape the night
    of the merciful
    I'll see you again
When the stars fall from the sky
And the moon has turned red
    Over One Tree Hill

    We run like a river
    Runs to the sea
    We run
    like a river
    to the sea
    And when it's raining
    Raining hard
    That's when the rain will
    Break my heart

    Raining...raining in the heart
    Raining in your heart
    Raining...raining to your heart
    Raining, raining...raining
    Raining to your heart
    Raining...raining in your heart
    Raining in your heart..
    To the sea

    Oh great ocean
    Oh great sea

'Me, myself and I' - reminds me of George Harrison's autobiography 'I - Me- Mine'.
I bought it some time ago and think a revisit is in order *
I didn't realise that the book title was also one of his songs:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seqaTuXkqFI

...it was the last new track recorded by the band before their break-up in April 1970. The song originated from their January 1969 rehearsals at Twickenham Film Studios when they were considering making a return to live performance. Written at a time of acrimony within the group, the lyrics lament humankind's propensity for self-centredness and serve as a comment on the discord that led to Harrison temporarily leaving the Beatles. The musical arrangement alternates between waltz-time verses and choruses played in the hard rock style.wiki

    * as well as his story, it includes photographs, lists of songs, some with handwritten lyrics and a paragraph of explanation.

I, ME, MINE is the 'ego' problem...suddenly I looked around and everything I could see was relative to my ego...I hated everything about my ego...it was a flash of everything false and impermanent which I disliked. But later, I learned from it: to realise that there is somebody else in there apart from old blabbermouth. Who am 'I' became the order of the day.

Anyway, that's what came out of it: I Me Mine..
Allen Klein thought it was an Italian song - you know, Cara Mia Mine but it's about the ego: the eternal problem... (p158).

    "See Yourself"

It's easier to tell a lie than it is to tell the truth
It's easier to kill a fly than it is to turn it loose
It's easier to criticize somebody else
    Than to see yourself

It's easier to give a sigh and be like all the rest
Who stand around and crucify you while you do your best
It's easier to see the books upon the shelf
    Than to see yourself

It's easier to hurt someone and make them cry
Than it is to dry their eyes
I got tired of fooling around with other people's lies
Rather I'd find someone that's true

It's easier to say you won't than it is to feel you can
It's easier to drag your feet than it is to be a man
It's easier to look at someone else's wealth
    Than to see yourself

While the intention is seemingly to avoid gender, it does accidentally work against the unity of the mind in a subtle way. I should clarify that I'm not against the unity of the mind or for the plurality of mind in a spiritual/ethical sense. For me it's just a good example, maybe the best, of a metaphysical presupposition, if we even want to call something so typically automatic a presupposition. In the Blue Book thread, there's a killer Wittgenstein passage about this. Locke also thought about this in a less radical but related way. What is a person, and how does this connect with memory and language?

While they treated you like a dog
When you were the one who had made it so clear
    All those years ago

I'm talking all about how to give
They don't act with much honesty
But you point the way to the truth when you say
    All you need is love

    Living with good and bad
I've always looked up to you
Now we're left cold and sad
By someone the devil's best friend
    Someone who offended all

We're living in a bad dream
    They've forgotten all about mankind
And you were the one they backed up to the wall
    All those years ago
You were the one who Imagined it all
    All those years ago

    Deep in the darkest night
I send out a prayer to you
Now in the world of light
Where the spirit free of the lies
And all else that we despised

    They've forgotten all about God
He's the only reason we exist
Yet you were the one that they said was so weird
    All those years ago
You said it all though not many had ears
    All those years ago
You had control of our smiles and our tears

'All You Need is Love'- The Beatles ( written by John Lennon)

    https://vimeo.com/252765355

The song was Britain's contribution to Our World, the first live global television link, for which the band were filmed performing it at EMI Studios in London on 25 June [1967].The programme was broadcast via satellite and seen by an audience of over 400 million in 25 countries.
Lennon's lyrics were deliberately simplistic, to allow for the show's international audience, and captured the utopian ideals associated with the Summer of Love.

    It's been a long
    long
    long time
    How could I ever
    have lost you
    When I
    loved you

    It took a long
    long
    long
    time
    Now I'm so happy
    I found you
    How I
    love you

So many tears I was searching
So many tears I was wasting, oh oh

    Now I can see you,
    be you
    How can I ever
    misplace you
    How I
    want you
    Oh I
    love you
You know that I need you
    Ooh I
    love you

Yes, it's a good example of what Collingwood called an absolute presupposition, although you are right that it looks more basic. Perhaps Kant's a priori is a better way to look at it, like our sense of space and time?

Perhaps Kant's a priori is a better way to look at it, like our sense of space and time?Olivier5

I would say that it has that Kantian flavor except that in my imperfect understanding of Kant is that it's too contingent. We can imagine more than one person per skull. The philosopher Robert C. Solomon used (don't think invented) the phrase methodological solipsism for something like the Cartesian starting point. I think of it as a research habit that was fruitful in many ways but also leads to certain confusions and dead ends (well criticized by various 20th century philosophers.)

We might also consider how Kant's work is endangered or not by dropping MS or at least by recognizing it as a contingent decision. Philosophers could have worked from the outside in rather than from the inside out, or many other ways.

Haunting and a wee bit weird at the end.
    From p132 of GH's autobiography:

'The 'you' in Long, Long, Long is God. I can't recall much about it except the chords which I think were coming from Sad Eyed Lady of the Low Land - D to E minor, A and D - those 3 chords and the way they moved.
There was a bottle of 'Blue Nun' wine on top of the Leslie speaker and when our Paul hit some organ note the Leslie started vibrating and the bottle rattling. You can hear it on the record - at the very end.'

'Blue Nun' and whatever else they were taking - I think the bottle rattling set George and Ringo off on a trip where they just let rip. That howl from George... :scream:

50 years ago the Stones dropped this juvenile piece of nasty work, which nonetheless is a Rock-n-Roll masterpiece (covered by Little Richard no less). Other than civil rights activists at the time (like Jessie Jackson), I can't recall other recording artists such as Stevie Wonder, Sly Stone, Marvin Gaye, Isaac Hayes, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Billie Preston, Ike & Tina Turner, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Roberta Flack, Bill Withers, George Clinton, Chaka Khan, Muddy Waters et al complaining that this offensive paean to 'slavery heroin rape cougars & cunnilingus' had offended them. Yo, have some sympathy and some taste ... :fire:

Gold coast slave ship bound for cotton fields
Sold in a market down in New Orleans
Scarred old slaver knows he's doing alright
Hear him whip the women just around midnight

    [ ... ]

Drums beating, cold English blood runs hot
Lady of the house wonderin' where it's gonna stop
House boy knows that he's doing alright
You shoulda heard him just around midnight

    [ ... ]

How come you taste so good?
