    What would happen if the UK government imposed a Modern Slavery Tax on products sold in the the UK?

    Modern slavery around the world seems to be an ongoing problem, so to recognise that a lot of the products we buy in the west, have potential to be partially involved, via the global supply chain.

    I'm not going to pretend to be naive about a tax like this. This would be an open and ongoing acknowledgement that there is a problem. Every product that had a slave tax logo on it, would remind people that they might be contributing to modern day slavery. People don't want to think this, which is part of the problem.

    A slavery tax could be used to fund the gathering of statistic about modern-day slavery, it would raise the expense of purchasing these products, which add pressure for companies to seek slavery free sources for their products, and materials.

    There could be a slave free status and logo as well, for products.

    I know it is a complex issue, and the interweaving of modern global capitalism would make it hard to insure that a product was slave free...

    anyway, thoughts?
