Is it possible there are people who have an advanced understanding of the world but protect their secret knowledge so as to exert influence over human affairs?

It is clear that militaries continually develop new technologies. It is in their interests to withhold the use of advanced weaponry so that they have the upper hand in any potential conflict. How far does this knowledge stretch? Could it be possible that the fundamental nature of reality is understood, of consciousness and the meaning of life.

It seems the state of balance between the major political powers is dependent on their nuclear deterrent. Could it be that a more advanced race of people is maintaining this state of affairs so that human civilisation does not self destruct.

Not only is it possible, it is a fact. Yes, we have secret knowledge and we exert influence over human affairs. Any given ordinary individual may not like the way things are working out, but they are ignorant of our objectives. And they are going to stay ignorant, because we are not going to reveal what our objectives are.

We advise you to discontinue this line of inquiry, for your own good.

Considering that we’re rapidly making the world uninhabitable for ourselves, with mass extinctions of species, climate change, pollution, etc. we might conclude that if there’s a secret master race they’re working against us. Maybe they’re aliens terraforming the planet to their liking?

I was hoping it might take longer for you to track this post down but now I'll have to move residence and change my identity!

These people live amongst us. They might be the 'elites', or even the moderately wealthy with just a couple of billion dollars. Who knows. Maybe they traverse to different dimensions, do a bit of interstellar travel here and there. The point is there must be people living on this planet right now who's level of knowledge and access to technology far exceeds that of everyone else. These people will have massive amounts of power and influence whether they choose to use it or not.

Considering that we’re rapidly making the world uninhabitable for ourselves, with mass extinctions of species, climate change, pollution, etc. we might conclude that if there’s a secret master race they’re working against us. Maybe they’re aliens terraforming the planet to their liking?praxis

Very true, so maybe they aren't so far advanced after all or have alterior objectives as you suggest. What are all the rich people going to do when there's ecological collapse? Maybe this is why there's a push to get people to Mars.

My boyfriend has the unfortunate tendency to subscribe to various conspiracy theories, and while I agree that conspiracy theories have some philosophical merit, that is, they argue against the status quo, or assumed knowledge, which is, again, important to understanding objective knowledge itself, in no way do I necessarily believe in the Illuminati, or as my boyfriend calls, the 'elites' (he had another name for them but I forget). Of course governments are corrupt, and of course, there are various political/economic agendas secretly at play. I have no doubt the American government tortures lots of people on islands in the south Pacific, also have no doubt that China is secretly working on [insert weapon here] and ya, lots of 'public safety agencies' are probably spying on our web usage.

The same people who propose that kind of stuff are the same people who seem to go to great lengths to put tape over their web cameras (thus smudging and otherwise damaging the quality of their $2000+ laptop camera lens) just because they are so paranoid that some secret agency is watching them pick their nose as they surf eBay. The people who generally believe in the stuff are people who are just naive to the way the world works and operates, how various systems overlap. As one philosopher on conspiracy theories put it (I also forgot his name) they seek answers because they seek a unified world, and clear concise answers. When there are none. The world is random, chaotic, and overly unpredictable.

By any chance has the OP been watching "The Blacklist"? This post is pretty much an extreme rip off of the entire like first six seasons of that show.

The advanced form of human understanding and kept secret to a certain extent to function without a doubt. The problem is the proof positive claims on tendency tend to be wrong and rather than hidden some of the most horrendously disgusting things are kept in plain sight.

For instance operation, Northwoods is perhaps some of the most Machiavellian and disgusting examples of this.... or the 'advanced interrogation techniques' at Abu Ghraib if one is capable of empathy... The court case of the humiliating photos that came out of there as well the defense that got alot of people off was more or less... The purge of information, the way that prison was run dehumanized them anyway, the advanced interrogation techniques and body bags from CIA interrogations more or less made it a dehumanizing pit of despair... A basic understanding of markets knows that there have always been patterns of wealth accumulation and crisis points.... The wealthy get fair weather capitalism year round while most folks who try to live an American Dream assets take a real hit..... The circle of absurdity continues we all argue 'something must be done' and slowly and painfully this change occurs.

When I was younger (definitely not now) I wished there was an Illuminati and by that I mean a friendly dictator taking the unwashed masses forward as the hand behind the curtain only because we are dealing with the potential deaths of millions of people maybe billions depending on how bad the impact of global warming is and how unreasonable people will be about trying to seize assets. There is a sense as well where a conspiracy could take place much less as an agreed upon principle, a club we all go to but more so an understanding. In that sense 'the breakaway civilization' or the 'party of Davos' rhetoric of national populism makes more sense.

BUT..... when I look to the far political left of the country having a fair few anti-globalist leanings in terms of international monetization and socialism then I look to the far right that has a fair few anti-globalization pro-nationalist capitalisms....

I find myself more perplexed and suspicious that these general sense impressions of much of the political sphere are a joke, that poorly organized sporadic groups of people who often have poorly expressed, highly exaggerated rhetoric and often non-rational basis of justification leaves a questionable basis for throwing them into boxes marked Left and Right hoping to make sense of it....

Applying this to big business and the wealthy I can see clear divides and competition particularly in the recent attacks on social media or say insurance companies being instrumental in taking Big Oil to task the value of these pejorative and generalized distinctions.

Sorry haven't seen The Blacklist but I imagine its exactly the sort of thing I'm getting at. Same as the Illuminati, the all seeing eye, reptilian overlords, 1984 big brother, yellow brick road, matrix, templar knights …. I think there's a good reason why these conspiracy theories exist; because there is in fact some degree of truth in them.

Conspiracy theory appeals to people on a certain instinctive level because our society is structured and is susceptible to interference, or even rule, by unseen powers. I would suggest these powers currently stem from the intelligence agencies (CIA/ MI6 …) but its impossible for we, as the people (sheeple), to know how far or where this unseen influence extends.

Yes the world is unpredictable and chaotic to a certain extent and that is probably our saviour. Nation states grow and shrink, borders and populations move, resources, technology, diseases and wars all have their impacts on world affairs. But through all this there will still always be a subsection of people who hold the power and influence and they will always strive for more.

A basic understanding of markets knows that there have always been patterns of wealth accumulation and crisis points.... The wealthy get fair weather capitalism year round while most folks who try to live an American Dream assets take a real hit.....thedeadidea

There is a continual push for the people with wealth to keep growing and becoming more powerful at the expense of the ordinary citizens. Whether this is simply greed, the 'system' is geared so that those who are 'successful' trample over everyone else and grow in influence whilst those who show philanthropy and care for humanity have their wealth eroded.

So the watered down Marxist narrative goes..... But in the end, I want to see if these people want to go on to a national system of food stamps and rations... This shitty system is the same thing which mass produced the 'means of production'...
Insofar as 'the revolution' it was the insurance companies that more or less got a UN hearing which would have forced Big Oil to justify their 'global warming science' the same as the tobacco industry. On the other hand, the left seems more than happy to condemned anorexia and high fashion but seem more than willing to sit on Body Positivity or the non-empirical assertion one can be healthy at any size. Ronald Mcdonald will be happy to hear it...

I think it is more complicated than 'The Man' or 'The system' vs. 'the little guy' to be honest... also people can invest in themselves to get further ahead... I am less interested in everybody and making sure that someone who is happy and healthy who suddenly gets a cancer diagnosis gets told... "oh you can't afford it that's unlucky" than I do

Psychoceramics aside, it's pretty hard to develop new technology in isolation. Money on the other can be accumulated and multiplied in isolation, that's just the nature of it. Last I recall there's some 40 trillion USD held in offshore tax havens, excluding real-estate, gold, and other nonfungible assets. Just to give some perspective, Microsoft, the most valuable company in existence as of late is worth 1 Trillion dollars. Staggering isn't it? So, the Illuminati might exist, or at least there is some logic to the whole conspiracy theory.

Anyway, who cares? I live off 700 USD a month, so I'm happily squeaking along with my meager income.

Well of course, that's how capitalism as an economic and a deeply entrenched cultural system works.

If you've seen how much information can be gathered about a place and at a time, e.g. google maps, and that for public use, could you imagine what the military capabilities are? Also, the fact that any communication device is potentially a listening device, and the whole world is enmeshed by radio waves, this makes me think that if we really wanted to cut back on crime, if we really wanted to hunt down each and every terrorist, the resources are already there for use. So, why don't we? It's simple, I'll explain it with an analogy - the oil and automobile industries are notorious for involving themselves in research about alternative energy sources, however, their motive is not just to switch to better and cleaner energy, but to wait until the better, cleaner energy is more profitable than what they currently have, as well as to be able to monopolize their ownership when discovered. If not for such greed the whole world would have already gone green.

Could it be possible that the fundamental nature of reality is understood, of consciousness and the meaning of life.Jonmel

It depends on whether you're ready and/or willing to accept the answer. Personally I believe the answer is in spiritual teachings, but you have to be able to discern the truth yourself.

I think we get the consequences of our actions. Human actions = Human consequences. If there's an advanced race, don't they have their own business to attend to? And if we're part of their business, then they are a part of ours and they don't get to be an advanced race to us, more like a momentary advanced stage, and which we're all heading towards. For me, such are the Platos, Newtons, Buddhas, basically all men of incredible forethought, insight, intuition, etc. If not for such inspiring ideals generated and propagated by such distinguished men, the 'lesser' men motivated by selfish goals and by 'virtue' of their ignorance would have already led us to nuclear wars.

There's examples of stronger races (groups) of people controlling others throughout the ages. Take the Spartans as one:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spartiate

They essentially trained their own armies from a very young age (7 upwards) to have dominion over a larger but weaker population who had no means to fight back. They enslaved people to farm the land and provide for their luxuries. The Spartans did not perform manual labour, they simply focused all their energies into preparing for combat.

I think this is still applicable today, I'm just not sure as to the extent. People are well aware that they are simply slaves to the system, trapped by debt. Most can just accept that this is the way it is and be happy in their lives, some struggle with it and try to fight against it.

It depends on whether you're ready and/or willing to accept the answer. Personally I believe the answer is in spiritual teachings, but you have to be able to discern the truth yourself.BrianW

I think this is very true. Its also why I believe there has been a crackdown on entheogens, because they are one way people can access their higher self and find true meaning. Poeple's spiritual connection to the universe is being manipulated by religions and commercialisation and this then allows their lives to be controlled by more 'advanced' people.

Also, the fact that any communication device is potentially a listening device, and the whole world is enmeshed by radio waves, this makes me think that if we really wanted to cut back on crime, if we really wanted to hunt down each and every terrorist, the resources are already there for use.BrianW

The solutions are there waiting but they are held in balance. It suits an agenda to have people live in fear, to be angry and feel helpless. Is this just a natural part of human evolution, until we reach a breaking point and there is another uprising of the masses. Then a new elite take over?
