I meant to define "Left" and "Right" and not to adjudicate conservative vs reactionary or progressive vs radical. The Left-Right schema as described here does not actually make a ruling on what the past was actually like: it instead describes how political ideologies view the past.Conservatives should logically occupy the center. What you describe as conservatives are actually reactionary.
