I think the same about regulations. There are no such regulations in place though we do give up the most of our lifetime to support a system that it was supposed to provide for you and not the other way around (will a person born in Nigeria get the same chances with a person born in Switzerland?). And the economy can break down quite easy in my opinion. Imagine what would happen if every employee globally would stop showing up in the morning. The whole system will collapse. What stops that I think is communication. It seems more likely to influence an amount of people in the vicinity of a city rather than a planet.

I haven't involved any cultures in my thinking. And the economic system has nothing to do with culture. It's a global rewarding means. So people still get paid and they can still worship a god named Jesus another called Allah and so on. So culture is also not involved. Therefore no hubris there. Would you say that historical events which lead to the change of status quo were a hubris too? As far as perfecting ourselves goes, we might be able. We are just too far from it (from a neuroscience and technological perspective). Can we perfect the conditions we all live and reboot the whole system? Yes. What prevents it is acceptance that this is the best case scenario.

The law isn't (and never was) the issue. The law is there to create fear and aversion. Thus can be easily overridden. As historically has happen so many times. Therefore I don't believe it's the law that stops us.
