  • Is sexual harassment a product of a sexually repressive environment?
In my opinion sexual harassment has always stemmed from power. There are numerous examples that justify this point of view. Check out the Harvey Weinstein case. An almighty man, one of Hollywood's wealthiest producers rapes starlets in order to put them in the movie industry. Unfortunately Weinstein is one single fiber of a whole web of harassment. And that's not just in Hollywood it's everywhere. Your neighbor could be harassing his children, or your best friend could be harassing his frail girlfriend etc. Some people blame it on modern day rape culture but they're so wrong. They just ignore the elephant in the room. There have been incidents of harassment for as long as power had existed. Michel Foucault writes about it extensively in his study "History of sexuality". It might be funny but the following Frank Underwood quote best describes the link between power and sex
Everything is about sex except sex. Sex is about power.
That's why harassment is far more likely to happen in an environment where there's hierarchy eg workplace.
  • How to overcome Death Anxiety
Thank you both for your answers.
@Bitter Crank you focus more on the religious aspect of fear of death. What I meant was the existential type of fear, being afraid that there's nothing after death and that life is vain. Im more interested in learning if either of you has experienced some type of anxiety when you contemplate death. Does the prospect of ceasing to exist trigger any anxious or negative feelings and if so how do you deal with it?
  • Democracy is Dying
Democracy is merely a delusion. The way politics are formed in modern history leave little to no room for anyone to run for candidate. Democracy has flourished in modern day societies, wars and revolutions have been conducted in it's name and it is considered one of the most fundamental values in the world. However the truth is that it's not the best regime in fact Plato argued extensively that democracy is the second worst regime claiming that democratic societies are doomed to sink in anarchy and corruption. However Plato wrote about the Athenian democratic system which was 10.000 times less corrupted and less complicated than modern day democracies. Ancient Athenians would gather multiple times a year at the general assembly known as the "ecclesia" and would directly vote by raising their hands. Everyone was allowed to participate and also run for candidate regardless of social or financial class. Nowadays democracies are not that simple. In fact they have sustained so many alterations that they have nothing to do with good old Athenian democracy. Modern democracy is so perplexed that even political scientists have a hard time studying it. It is astonishing how a once simple concept has turned into a multifaceted phenomenon that has almost lost its initial meaning and yet people would still give their lives in the name of it. Though we must face the fact that democracy is declining and the decline is rapid. The above statement is proven by the sudden rise of the far right both in the U.S and the E.U . Moreover the decline of Democracy also indicates the decline of Western Civilization. People seem to be bewildered by the current role of democracy. Unemployment, dept, crime rates, wars, poverty, social injustice all these are global issues which democracy has failed to tackle. In fact some people believe that democracy is the very cause of these problems. If we go back in history we'll come accross wars, kingdoms falling, revolutions, coup d'états. There's only one thing that always remains unchanged throughout the course of time and that is : CHANGE. Everything changes and democracy is not impervious to that. One day maybe in the not so long distant future people will have to see democracy drawing its last breath.
  • Why do athiests have Morals and Ethics?
I mostly identify as an agnostic but to be frank I lean toward atheism and I have some strong moral values. The reason I do have moral values and also live by them is not because I'm expecting a divine reward eg.salvation or afterlife or a place in heaven. I live by these moral values because I feel like that me as a person, as a single unit I am doing my best to make this world just a little bit better. If every single "me" in this world treated each other right this world would be heaven itself therefore we wouldn't need the existence of God or a second chance, that of an afterlife. And honestly I think it's a lot more noble, and more beautiful to be an atheist who lives by moral standards than being a religious person who only lives by the Bible's rules. And the majestic reason behind it it's something even Christian God loves and it's called free will. Also what's more beautiful and rare than selflessness? Religious people are striving to be moral throughout their whole lives because they expect something in return, while atheists who live moral lives expect nothing at all since they believe that everything ends with their death.
