What do we have to learn from this history?Athena

That attaining fame, and attaining immortality looks quite different.

I certainly agree that everyone is far too much on the defensive, making any amount of offense seem like the worst thing ever. Yeah, people want to be around you, but they're guarded, they lie, they tell you what you want to hear. Being on the offensive is expressive, it is deeply revealing of the core values of a person. If we all hide from the world, we all go unseen, remain alone forever, and fear distrust, and are just ignorant of one and other.

So yes, far far too much defense, not nearly enough offense. There are of course conventional routes to offense, but they're just ideological, and likewise mask the real self by supplanting the true motivations, and needs that the person has.

Not ruining the moment with past trauma means being ready and willing to be traumatized again in every moment. Being hurt once, and then working to make sure hurt like that never happens again is the opposite of that...

They are free to fulfill that desire, no one can really stop you, but you'll still be dropping all of your burden, and making everyone you love take it on without your help. It can be sane if people like, but it is nowhere approaching anything but self-centered.

Why else would it be that "I and the father are one"? You have to submit to everything both your parents have ever been right about. Honour thy mother and father.

On school of rock Gene Simmons upset all the little children by picking the kid with the most passion to be the lead singer, rather than the kid with the most pleasing, and refined sound.

I also like how when kids disagreed with him he pulled authority and was all like "I sold millions of records, did this, or that, and know what I'm talking about, and you don't", and the kid was like "so, I don't care!" and he felt like he'd lost that exchange, like he was the establishment against the rebel, and immediately wanted to change places.

    Funny guy.

I'm sorry - I wasn't posting with the intent of upsetting you, but I can see how the way I responded was callous. I'm trying not to respond to the stories and thoughts of others with the same ' corrective' impulse I've used for a while, especially on here with philosophy, but thats just what I did, I think.csalisbury

It was precisely that, yes. It is somewhat inflammatory to disagree with the interpretations of events or things people said in someone else's experience that you weren't even there for... that is a high level of causal distrust and dismissal. Unless someone is quite a dubious character, that attacks one's competence and integrity.

It's also important to point out that I never had any special experiences, I dedicated a lot of time and effort into cultivating something. Many years.

Would you be disappointed if I didn't recognize you?

Yeah, lots of stuff is horrible, would you prefer something better to be the case? Oh, then it must! The objection implies that it is natural to conclude things based on preferences...
  • So much for free speech and the sexual revolution, Tumblr and Facebook...

Clearly not, but everyone is dying to pretend to. The two sides will be separated conscious, and present in the world. Leaning on and bound to one and other for comfort more than others because people just won't see you like you know they ought to! Well, you're an abomination. Don't worry, not necessarily incurably, and there are of course degrees.

Jung went over this, it is a mistake, but it isn't a delusional or pathological mistake necessarily, as the anima is in fact part of the unconscious. The problem is loving yourself more than others, regardless of whether you think you're conventional as can be (which would be impossible, because that is what is completely made up), or think you're a garden hose, or Napoleon. So don't sigh easy my friend.

Why attempt to upset me? Why play games? I really gotta fight this overwhelming urge to flap my lips... this elevation and arousal makes my life harder, do you have to attempt it on purpose?
  • The Man in the High Castle.
"I cannot accept your canon that we are to judge Pope and King unlike other men, with a favourable presumption that they did no wrong. If there is any presumption it is the other way against holders of power, increasing as the power increases. Historic responsibility has to make up for the want of legal responsibility. Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men, even when they exercise influence and not authority: still more when you superadd the tendency or the certainty of corruption by authority. There is no worse heresy than that the office sanctifies the holder of it. That is the point at which the negation of Catholicism and the negation of Liberalism meet and keep high festival, and the end learns to justify the means. You would hang a man of no position, like Ravaillac; but if what one hears is true, then Elizabeth asked the gaoler to murder Mary, and William III ordered his Scots minister to extirpate a clan. Here are the greater names coupled with the greater crimes. You would spare these criminals, for some mysterious reason. I would hang them, higher than Haman, for reasons of quite obvious justice; still more, still higher, for the sake of historical science." - Acton.
  • How to go beyond an agonal vision of Reality?
Or is there anyone reading this who can propose an alternative view of reality, say more scientific and rational.DiegoT

Idly, but they would just ultimately be helpless, and waiting for someone else to do something just like you... because the solution will be a complex secret hidden in the far corners of the universe, waiting for the right intrepid Enlightened one to stumble upon it. It won't just be the things none of you are willing to do, or accept that you can. Distasteful thing that, you're a pacifist.

Never been the conflicting tribe that was dangerous anyway. It was the loner in the corner of town learning how to perfectly satisfy themselves and remove themselves from the turmoil of mere mortals. Caring about the comings and goings of others, and how they should live, and what have you. No, none of my concern. I shall accrue, plan, and work towards the fulfillment of my own happiness, and well-being. We can all move closer and closer to this conclusion. Conflict is hard, so we can all just get better and better at pleasing ourselves, and let everyone live as they will. It's super been working.
  • Are tough guys latent homo/bisexuals?
That comment may seem irrelevant (and I apologize if I'm distracted, or not fully available, just have a few things on the go at the moment), but obvious posturing, presentation, and anything but actual want for your harm present in their eyes is just some nonsense in their head to look a certain way.

What causes fear? Narcissism, self concern. This is what it is to be an abomination, something in love with itself, and in conflict with the world. An inner and outer being. The inner being completely in the dark, protected from the reality of just what kind of abomination it is.
  • Are tough guys latent homo/bisexuals?
You know that fear is an extremely helpful inhibitor. It's difficult to control yourself sometimes when you actually have to persuade yourself that you ought not, rather than just letting your cowardice do the heavy lifting.

Friend came over today, and I was still so angry, that I was smashing about, singing aggressive lyrics, and adding some inflammatory remarks of my own mixed in until they left. That's how crazy I am, and when I start smashing, and flexing, and rushing the blood through my veins I start to feel more and more violent.

Still so super angry and completely weary of these blasphemers. I couldn't quite figure out why this is so uncontrollably upsetting, but I think that it is simply that it literally is the deepest, and most worrying mistake that it is possible to make. It is not only to not be able to tell the difference between the worst thing that exists, and the best thing, but to say that the one is the other. This is to mark one as far gone as it is possible to go.

Of course the evil are just filled with anxiety and fear, and even awakened ones are when there is any chance at all that they may be in danger. The facade is completely projected, from a whining baby that thinks of nothing but how to satisfy its desires and win.

Neither was actually what I figured set him off, it was because I am of the poor and casually swear a lot, and I said that he was being "effing unreasonable", and he interpreted the swearing as aggression, and responded by getting red faced and yelling.

I had spoken twice to him, that was the second time, the first time for like a hour, and the second for maybe ten minutes. It was the first discussion, in which I went over my experiences, including gender issues and stuff where his disgust was apparent to me. I could also, and still be wrong about that interpretation, but you read more into what I said than what was available.
  • Yes, you’d go to heaven, but likely an infinitely worse heaven
I expound the miracles of the heart to people with heart disease. It's more than awkward the whole time, and I just want to curl up and disappear. The truth is really really terrible... but perdition, lose of soul, hell, it originally just meant irreparably damaged, due to the ways one lives, breaths, and feels. When one asks god for help, you get help changing, and reorienting. People need to stop their road to self-destruction and turn it around, and start taking care of themselves as if they're actually worth something to someone. That's the only thing that can fix you, or anyone, as far as I know. I know personally people that would say I lack faith saying that, but I know that I'm going to get to watch them kill themselves while they have more faith.

  • Could We Ever Reach Enlightenment?
The no cursing thing was just out of paranoia really, but within a day I noticed more mobility of the throat chakra, and action in that channel between the stomach and nectar of immortality in the top of the mouth, which when aligned properly, allows the toxins that are generated in the throat there to be purified in the stomach.

See, that is another reason I get crap, because I used eastern techniques, like yoga a lot, and people think that makes it evil. Never planned it, or thought much about it, but I actually think that not cursing is making a big difference. Reading about it suggests precisely this, that irreverent, vulgar, or disrespectful speaking disaligns the throat.
  • Could We Ever Reach Enlightenment?
As the video alludes to, it is pretty much the same stuff from where I'm sitting, not like I grasp things at the highest level, or am omniscient and have a complete grasp, but they're all about the same things. And even though they do very much involve mental and physical practices (which they all do), they never identify the completion, or goal with a purely mental or physical state. It is a seeing, and you don't "see" things that aren't there, unless you're delusional -- and when a ton of other people see precisely the same thing, well, as delusions go that's a good one.

No point in like describing things like has been done tell million times, making them seem different. Like drawing someone a picture of something they've never seen before. You get ten different people to do that, given to ten different people, and they may find it hard to agree that all of their drawings are the same.

I do like science, and the philosophy of science, I'm fairly familiar with the ideas of Kuhn, Popper, Feyerabend. Who do you like? There isn't a lot like scientific details, as there isn't in an account of history, a baking recipe, some directions, literary theories, or pretty much all philosophical theories as well.
  • Too much religion?
Don't worry, it's completely thankless, and everyone around me is pretty sure that I'm in league with the devil. I was told as Jesus accused the Pharisees, which of course is the opposite of the truth. He said that they were liars and hypocrites, which they were, but since they hated him for pointing out that fact, they said that he was in league with the devil to justify his murder.

His response to the idea that he was healing through the power of the devil was: " “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. 26 If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? 27 And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges. 28 But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you.

29 Or how can one enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house.

30 He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters abroad. 31 Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven people. 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.

33 Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit. 34 Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. 36 But I say to you that for every idle word people may speak, they will give account for it in the day of judgment. 37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Yes, I become extremely upset when I'm accused of being in league with the devil rather than the holy spirit, but I hope that those that make that accusation appreciate the consequences of doing so.
