About TheIdealist

About My name is Adrian Stratulat and I will be your guide in what I hope will be a journey of discovery and self-discovery.

My academic background is in diplomacy, international affairs and political studies (currently a PhD student in energy security). That being said, I do not have any formal training neither in philosophy nor in physics.

I am however, very curious. So during my youth I have read tens, if not hundreds of books on philosophy, metaphysics, science (physics mainly) spirituality and Eastern religions and mysticism.

I believe in the concept of the Renaissance man, a polymath (or expert-generalist) not afraid to learn outside of his comfort zone, driven by an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. I also have a lot of faith in the idea that learning outside your narrow specialization can offer you an “out of the box” view, by being able to understand the common, underlying principles connecting more than just one area of knowledge.

In my approach of metaphysics, I favor a set of 5 tools:

Methodological Skepticism (always analyze what you think you know, and look for hidden, underlying assumptions)
Logic (always make sure your arguments are sound)
Empiricism and explanatory power (always make sure your abstract models of the world match the observed reality & the metaphysical paradigm of choice must always be able to explain through its characteristic mechanisms any phenomena empirically observed)
Parsimony (among equally probable explanations, always favor the one requiring the fewest assumptions; especially when dealing with ontological primitives). See Occam’s razor.
Paradigmatic Self-consistency (the metaphysical paradigm of choice must always be self-consistent – there can never be a contradiction or paradox between the various predictions and/or interpretations of a metaphysical paradigm).
As an ending note, I invite you to be curious, skeptical and open-minded. Knowledge and wisdom comes in all shapes and sizes, and some may seem really strange at the first glance. Use your critical thinking and you may find that the rabbit hole goes deeper than you would expect. And it may change you, forever.
